The early years of a child's life are crucial for cognitive, social and emotional development. Therefore, it is important that we take every step necessary to ensure that children grow up in environments where their social, emotional and educational needs are met.
Costs to society of less than optimal development are enormous and far-reaching. Children who grow up in environments where their developmental needs are not met are at an increased risk for compromised health and safety, and learning and developmental delays. Failure to invest time and resources during children‟s early years may have long term effects on the foster care, health care, and education systems. Therefore, it is in the public's interest to ensure that children develop in safe, loving, and secure environments.
a. It is a movement of children who are self-confident and believe that they
can come together, think, analyze socio - political happenings to a certain level,
speak about them and make decisions and act on them together.
b. It is a movement by children to protect their right to life, health, freedom,
security and participation. It is a movement of children that enjoys the support
of elders who believe that children's participation in matters that affect their
lives is essential for a meaningful social democracy.
c. We have promoted 99 Children Parliaments in our operational areas. Each
parliament elected its prime minister and other ministers for home, finance, education,
health, environment and public works. Each minister and his committee have a specific
role to play. Children after becoming the members of the Parliament care for one
another. Group cohesion is enhanced. They are able to analyze their area problems
and are able to address the same. Their civic sense has increased. Their values
are strengthened and they respect their elders. They also motivated the school dropouts
to join the mainstream.
The rescued children are under a severe traumatic condition, scared about everything. Hence rehabilitation programmes such as psycho – social interventions are organized to bring them back to their normal life. Well trained counselors deal with the children individually and constantly. We give them moral education, and arrange resource persons to teach them life skills, basic human values, career guidance etc to gain self-confidence, self-acceptance and self-reliance. This has brought many positive changes in their attitudes, interests and approach towards their life. We do take necessary steps for the reunification of children with their respective families.
Orphan, semi orphan and children who do not have a wish to join their families are given educational support to continue their education. Regular medical assistance is given to improve their health status. The grown up children are given chance to learn various skill trainings such as computer, catering, tailoring etc to learn a skill for their livelihood. The trust sees to that until these grown up girls take up self employment activities and settled down in their lives.
Girl Children in this sub-urban region of Dar es Salaam are the most vulnerable to the lure of human traffickers. They are actually sold to traffickers by relatives or “friends”. Most human trafficking occurs during the course of voluntary but ill-prepared and uninformed migration. Many girl children are tempted to leave their rural villages in search of work. Some are looking to escape poverty or abusive relationships. Others are simply searching for adventure in the big city and a new start in life.
:Using coercion, deception and sometimes violence, or the threat of violence, the traffickers diverts the young migrant into prostitution, forced labour and/or other slave-like conditions, including domestic work. Many children were sold into the custody of a merciless brothel owner or working as a virtual prisoner in a factory or home with little or no wages.
The society of DMI witnessed the street children and victims of trafficking being tormented in their neighborhood. Hence the Trust of DMI has felt the urgent need of saving the children from the traffickers, safeguard their rights and help them to live a dignified life in the society.
The DMI- Spring of Hope (children‟s care home) at Kimara is a source of inspiration for children who are abandoned, orphans and semi orphans in Dar Es Salaam and Songea region. They are also provided regular education, periodical counseling and health check up, recreation, spirituality, trainings and seminars to enhance their qualities and communication, gardening etc. The programs are scheduled on a regular functioning that encourages children to be active and comfortable.

These trainings helped women to build strong organizational set up and leadership from grass root level to serve in Self Help Groups, Federations and in Local Government. It is the right time to recognize and to protect the child rights. The child rights ensure the children irrespective of religion, culture, race, origin etc and it help them to enjoy their rights. The children should be able to demand for their rights when they are denied. In villages, the children were mainly educated on four rights that are - right to survival, development, protection and participation. Totally 15 child rights trainings were conducted and children actively participated in the trainings and learnt their basic rights.
